DEEP SEA PORT TERMINAL
The Deep Sea Port at Gold River is a private terminal containing 2 deep sea docks with four shipping berths to accommodate loading and unloading of ocean going vessels. The port facilities in Gold River also contain 2 barge ramps (each accessible with mobile loading equipment). Year round highway access connects Gold River to the rest of Vancouver Island.
The site consists of 283 acres of industrial lands zoned for heavy industry, power generation, mineral and concentrate storage, manufacturing and shipping, and other industrial activities.
The foreshore area is a protected inlet that is shielded from high winds. There are two barge loading ramps (with high vehicle weight capacity) and two steel pipe and concrete reinforced deep sea docks with a total of four berths, that were expanded and upgraded just prior to closing of the Mill in 1998. Deep sea dock #1 measures 660' in length by 70' wide with high efficiency fenders capable of accepting 45,000 -60,000 dwt ships. Deep sea dock #2 measures 550' in length by 65' in width. Both deep sea docks have power and water hook-ups available and were upgraded to meet the latest earthquake requirements of the US Applied Technology Council. The load weight of both docks is over 600 lbs per square foot. Minimum depth at low tide is 36'.
A Terminal Security and Safety Plan (ISPS) is in place for the site, including a BCIT certified Port Terminal Facility Officer to meet Federal Government of Canada security standards for port facilities. The property is completely fenced with electronic card key entrance and 24 hour security guard station.
The property also contains over 300,000 square feet of covered warehouse space, 40 acres of paved open storage, shipping offices, machine shop and tool rentals, carpenter shop and motor pool repair shop. The site contains tandem truck weigh scales and can be accessed year round via highway 28.
